1. Introduction

Chore Bytes ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Creative Space Arts, LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our application and website (collectively, the "Service"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of all users, especially children.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information:

  • Google or Apple account name and email address (parent/guardian only, via Google OAuth or Sign in with Apple)
  • Child profile names and avatars (created by the parent/guardian)

Usage Data:

  • Chore and reward activity within the household
  • App preferences and settings (theme colors, fonts)
  • Calendar events created within the app

Payment Information: Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers or payment details on our servers.

Analytics: We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how users interact with the Service. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google Analytics.

3. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Chore Bytes is designed for family use. Children access the app through invite codes generated by their parent or guardian. We do not:

  • Collect personal information directly from children under 13
  • Require children to create accounts or provide email addresses
  • Display advertising to any users
  • Share children's data with third parties

Parents/guardians control all child profiles and can delete them at any time. Child sessions use temporary, device-local authentication (invite codes) and do not involve Google OAuth or any personal data collection from the child.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate the chore tracking service
  • To authenticate your identity via Google or Apple sign-in
  • To process payments through Stripe
  • To send push notifications (only if you opt in)
  • To improve the Service based on aggregated, anonymized usage data

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with: Google (authentication), Apple (authentication), Stripe (payment processing), and Replit (hosting). These services have their own privacy policies and are used solely to operate the Service.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on encrypted PostgreSQL databases hosted by Neon/Replit. We use HTTPS for all communications. Access to data is restricted to authenticated users within their own household.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access your data through the app, delete your account and all associated data at any time (Admin Panel > Account Options > Delete My Account), erase your data without deleting your account via "Fresh Start" (Admin Panel > Account Options > Fresh Start), and export your data by contacting us.

8. Push Notifications

Push notifications are entirely opt-in. You can enable or disable them at any time through the app's notification settings. We use web push (VAPID) technology and do not share push subscription data with third parties.

9. Cookies & Local Storage

We use session cookies for authentication. We also use browser local storage and session storage to save your preferences. We do not use tracking cookies.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
